How to convert litre to imperial (UK) and US gallon
Use the following formula for the litre to imperial-gallon conversion.
Imperial gallon (UK) = litres / 4.54609
Here, you are dividing the volume of liquid you want to convert by 4.54609
Now, understand the conversion using a real-time example
If you convert 20 litres of fuel into the UK imperial gallon, you need to divide 20 by 4.54609.
So, the answer will be = 20/ 4.546 = 4.4 imperial gallon
When you convert the same amount of fuel into a US gallon, the result will be higher as the value of the imperial gallon is higher than the US gallon.
The formula would be, US gallon = litre / 3.785
For example, if you have 10-litre fuel and you want to convert it into US gallons, the result will be:
US gallon = 10/3.785= 2.64

Relationship between litre and gallons
