MPG to L/100km Converter
What is litre/100 kilometres (km)?
Litre per 100 kilometres (l/100 km) is a fuel economy metric system. This unit indicates how much a vehicle consumes fuel (petrol or diesel) to travel 100 kilometres. This is a global measurement system widely used in Europe and Australia. To measure fuel efficiency, it is necessary to convert values of MPG to Litre/100 km. The l/100 km metric is inversely proportional to the MPG. So, a car with high MPG consumes less fuel to cover 100 kilometres. In the following blog, I have explained how the conversion tool works and the formula used in this conversion process.
How to use our MPG to litre/100 km and vice versa
- Step 1: Put your car’s MPG value in the designated box. If you do not know your car’s MPG, you can calculate the MPG from our website.
- Step 2: After entering the value, press the “Calculate button”.
- Step 3: Now, check the result to know your car’s fuel consumption.
- Step 4: if you want to convert l/100 km to MPG, use the other calculator given in the blog.
How mpg to l/100 km is calculated using the conversion formula
The volume unit used to measure fuel economy in the United Kingdom is the Imperial Gallon. If you are using the US gallon, convert the US gallon to the Imperial Gallon.
For UK MPG to Litre/100 km,
The formula would be, L/100 km = 282.48 / MPG
For example, if you convert 30 miles per imperial gallon to the litre per 100 kilometres,
L/100 km = 282.48 / 30 = 9.42
For US MPG to l/100 km conversion,
L/100 KM = 235.21 / MPG
Considering the above example,
L/100 lm = 235.21 / 30 = 7.84
To convert L/100 km to MPG, follow the below formula,
According to the l/100 km to UK MPG conversion formula,
MPG = 282.48 / l/100 km
For example, assume your car consumes 20 litres for 100 km,
So, MPG = 282.48 / 20 = 14.12
If want to convert l/100 km to the US MPG,
The formula would be 235.21 / l/100 km
Considering the same example,
MPG = 235.21 / 20 = 11.76
Benefits of using the conversion tool
- It provides overall better clarity over the fuel efficiency of your car. It is easier to understand the mathematics of this conversion than MPG or KPL.
- As many countries have adopted this metric system, it is easier to compare the fuel consumption of cars worldwide.
- To calculate cost efficiency, MPG to Litre/100 km converter is considered the most convenient tool. This tool is useful to estimate the overall cost of ownership.
- If you are driving vehicles in Canada, Australia and New Zealand, this converter will be a handy tool to determine fuel economy in those regions. It will help you reduce unnecessary expenses on petrol or diesel.
